Primary Care Doctors - Show Low, AZ

"I was running 4-5 minutes late due to my sore leg that had received a new knee 2 weeks ago. In deference to the doctor and his staff, I called ahead to tell them I might be a few minutes late. The receptionist seemed very distressed about this, citing the need for time to fill out New Patient paperwork. She said that we would have to reschedule. I told her that I understood and I suggested that I come in anyway just to fill out the paperwork. She agreed, saying that we could reschedule at that time, and we hung up. Two minutes later, the receptionist called back and explained that she had discussed this with the doctor. She reported that he said that he would NOT see me now or at ANY other time and that if a new patient couldn't show up on time for a first appointment, that he had no interest in ever dealing with that person. Now, in all fairness, a doctor and staff have every right to set policy in their practice. A situation such as as mine could have very well been clarified on the very first visit. My thought is that a doctor who is so inflexible on something like this must be a very poor doctor indeed. I will make sure to share this information with anybody who asks me about a primary care physician in the future, just to make sure they don't make the same mistake."

"I recently moved back to Show Low from Oregon and after being gone over a year I thought I would return to Dr Varga. He did not care that I had 3 major surgeries in the last 7 months. He took all of my medication history but didn’t order anything. I was charged $140 for the visit and when I contested the cost of the appointment and I that I didn’t receive $140 worth of care. The office manager and Dr Varga decided it was better to just “fire” me as a patient instead of answering any of my calls to his office and try to understand why I was so unhappy. The day before my appointment my husband had an appointment and we were put into a dirty exam room. The exam table had wrinkled used paper on it plus some other patient left a water bottle on the floor. Providers are not easy to find in this area but I am happy he isn’t my doctor because I have had doctors who actually care about their patients. He and his office were rude so he actually did me a favor firing me from his office. "
