I have never had such a terrible experience with a therapist. Across three sessions, her advice was given without any understanding of the background of the situation or me as a person. Have a narcissistic parent who uses gifts as a weapon? I’m too sensitive because everyone received bad gifts. Been referred by a clinical psychotherapist for high levels of anxiety? Everyone has anxiety, you know. Unhappy with your roommates? Boomer advises to move out. Have an unkind thought? It’s shocking that anyone can stand to be around me and have I heard about complimenting people? Our last session was literally an attack, with me defending every thought, while she acted like I was the most horrible person she’d ever encountered. I’m incredibly grateful for my strong support system and the wisdom to know that she was off base and unkind, but I worry about someone in a more fragile state.
