We received a referral to this office by our primary care physician. When I called to make an appointment I was asked if I was a new or existing patient. I explained we were new and referred. That was the extent of the receptionist's politeness. She then abruptly asked, "what's your insurance?" When I told her what I thought it was, she said, "hold on" and without response from me, she put me on hold. The next thing I hear is, "we don't take that insurance." When I told her I may have read my insurance card wrong and asked if they take Aetna, she rudely responded with, "Yes, we take Aetna! But like I said, we don't take your insurance." When I tried to explain that I had just mixed up the information on the card, she told me that if I make an appointment, it's going to be $250. She then reiterated, "Ma'am... we don't take your insurance."

So, I called my primary care physician and requested a different referral. His assistant explained that I can also find a list of in-network providers by contacting my insurance provider. When I went online, sure enough, Desert Psychiatry is in my network! They DO take my insurance. Needless to say, we won't be going there if that's the way new patients are treated.
