Skin Issues

The skin is the largest organ in the body, protecting and covering the more sensitive inner organs. Considering its size and that it is constantly exposed to the elements, the skin is usually relatively problem-free. However that doesn't mean that issues don't come up from time to time that might need the help of a professional. The most common skin issues that people seek medical help with are cosmetic issues, acne, eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, and skin growths.

Professional cosmetic skin treatments exist to treat wrinkles, scars, dark spots, remove excess hair, tone and tighten skin, and otherwise improve the appearance of the skin. They may use lasers, light therapy, chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or many other forms of skin treatment.

Acne occurs when hair follicles become clogged with oil and dead skin cells, most commonly on the face or back. The clogged follicles can then become infected and inflamed. Treatments include antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, and retinoid creams.

Eczema is dry, sensitive skin that causes an itchy red rash, often in response to specific triggers. It is common in childhood but can sometimes last into adulthood. The main treatment involves keeping skin well moisturized.

Dermatitis is the medical name for any kind of skin inflammation or rash. Rashes can happen because of an allergy or contact with an irritating substance. They may be red, itchy, or even painful. They are often treated with antihistamines or moisturizing creams containing cortisone.

Psoriasis is patches of thick, red skin that is covered in silvery scales. It is often itchy and sore. Psoriasis is thought to be caused by an immune disorder, and it runs in families. Psoriasis is not contagious. There is no cure, but there are medicated creams available to treat the symptoms.

Skin growths, including warts and moles, are usually not serious. However, some skin growths should be examined by a doctor to make sure they don't cause problems in the future. Warts are harmless, rough, bumpy growths caused by a viral infection. They occur most often on the hands and feet. Because they are caused by a virus, they are contagious. Moles are brown or black spots that are sometimes raised slightly from the surface of the skin. They happen when clumps of pigment cells form in a cluster instead of spread out. Moles are harmless except that they are more vulnerable to cancer than other parts of the skin. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States, and its risk increases with sun exposure and fair skin tone.

Skin issues can be embarrassing or irritating, but most are minor and can be treated without serious problems. Some, however, can be a sign of a more significant issue, so it is important to see a doctor for anything out of the ordinary.

I have been going to Dr Tzu for many years.  She and her staff are wonderful. Dr Tzu has great bedside manner, is super thorough, and her front officr person, Amber, is great. As are her nurses.  Highly recommended.

Wanted to rate them 0 start if I could. I first had a consultation session with the doctor to have a diagnosis for the cyst on my back. After this session, she asked me to schedule a surgery with her to remove the cyst. I then scheduled an appointment with her on anther day at 4:45PM. When I arrived at the office around 4:40PM, I was told that there were 3 patients in ahead of me, so then I had to wait. Around 5:30PM, the representative of front desk gave me a condense form to sign. I asked her if my insurance will cover this surgery or no. The representative told me that they do not know, because she does not have the CPT code or procedure code. There are couple of issues here, 1) the reason she did not have it, is because the doctor did not provide one after the first consultation session. She did not measure the size of the cyst. 2)The representative told me that even they could measure me today and provide the code, it was impossible to check with my insurance because my insurance's provider line was closed at 5PM. I could not believe what the representative just told me, so I called my insurance immediately. My insurance did confirm with me that the provider line is still open for the doctor office to call, and will close way later than 5PM. I then asked the representative of the doctor office to call my insurance to understand what is needed by my insurance to decide the coverage of this surgery. The representative of the doctor office REFUSED to make the call. 3) I was the 2nd last patient scheduled for the day. I ended up being put into the waiting room around 6PM (which was 1hour and 15 mins later than my original appointment time). Guess what? They did not even start treating me after the patient before me was done with his check. Instead, they checked the patient who was scheduled later than me first (which was supposed to be the last patient on the date). I asked the representative why they treated me like this, she refused to answer me this question. 4) When I finally got opportunity to see the doctor, I asked her why during the first consultation session, the measurement of the cyst has not been done. She then told me that it is my responsibility to let her know that I need the measurement. I was very surprised she told me this, because for me, it is by all means needed for both the determination of the procedure code, and the determination of the necessity of the surgery. Also she finally told me that it was not necessary at all to do the surgery. Excuse me? So what was this appointment for? I tell you why she told me that. She told me that because the representative of the front desk, which is also the nurse, needed to leave. But the nurse is needed to implement the surgery. There have been bunch of reviews on Yelp also expressing the unprofessionalism of this office, as well as the unexpected long waiting time no matter the time of your appointment. I highly recommend everyone take these into serious consideration before booking appointment with this provider, because I have explicitly experienced all of these.
