my wife went to the Flatwoods outreach center with terrible back pain she was scheduled for a CT scan because she has a pace maker and cannot get an MRI. after the CT scan she went back to the flatwoods clinic Dr. howard came in and told us the results were degenerative disk disease and 2 bulging disks in her lower back...she asked for something for the pain, he said he would not give her any pain meds but he would prescribe her neurontin and robaxin. with the explicit instructions that if it didn't help to call the next day which was a Saturday and he would do something else. overnight she got worse and on Saturday we called the clinic and the answering service said he was not on the list, and that their instructions were to refer her to the emergency room. she tried to make it till monday cause we didn't have the $85 copay, but she had to go to the ER on sunday. The ER doc immediately gave her a shot of steroids and a small scrip of pain medication, and asked why our family dr. had not done this. We of course were not sure. he told us to follow up with Dr. howard on Monday......we have never been able to talk to Dr. Howard personally since that friday only through his nurse...and we found out the other day that he put notes on her records that he offered her a small prescription of pain meds and she refused them wanting more, which she absolutely never did. She has no history of drug abuse of any kind...she in the years we've been seeing dr. Howard has never once asked him for pain medication, until now with which she had test results and the advice of a pain specialist justifying her pain level. he placed these notes on her medical records without ever talking to her personally at all.....I feel that something that serious shoud be checked out fully and the patient consulted before you place something like that on someones medical records. I would think he should have at least given her a Drug test to verify his suspicions..
I would most definately stay away from Dr. Kevin Howard. In dealing with my wife and I who have had a dr. patient relationship for 2-3 years he has most definately exhibited unethical and uncaring behavior...
