Impersonal communication style. I’m 41, and was suicidal from the ages of 10 to 36 due to childhood trauma. Kevin kept asking if I thought my parents were abusive because their “generation” didn’t understand mental health. I said those comments were unhelpful, and even used the word “triggering” during a session and in a follow up email (no response). The third time I gave him feedback, he sighed a little with annoyance. I felt anxious and judged, like he was implying I should forgive my (estranged) parents. No curiosity or concern when I said it was triggering. No apology. I ended treatment after he brought it up a 4th time during a session in which I had discussed one of my worst traumas. I mentioned a 30 year old friend who went ‘radio silent’ as I struggled with health problems (7 ER and urgent care visits). Kevin asked twice “Do you think she acted that way because she’s 30?”
