I had a new patient visit with Dr. Iqbal to explore issues with sleep quality. I was told that Dr. Iqbal does not do appointments in Layton and the visit was at McKay-Dee Hospital. During the visit, I briefly explained my reason for coming in and he ordered an at-home sleep study. After completing the sleep study and returning the device to the hospital, I received a call from a staff member who told me they recommended I get a CPAP machine. The call was brief with little detail or discussion about options. The process seemed backward in that the initial visit should have been a phone call, and the in-person visit should have been after the sleep study to review the results with Dr. Iqbal and discuss a care plan. The initial visit was one-way communication in that it involved me providing basic information about myself to the clinic. This visit cost me $155 and the at-home sleep study cost $572 (I had not met my in-network deductible). The total cost for this new patient visit and the at-home sleep study was very high. The cost seems to be related to the sleep medicine office being part of a hospital. Other than the seemingly backward order of operations and the high cost, the experience was fine and normal. Due to my opinion of the process, the costs, and the anticipated costs of getting a CPAP machine through this office, I decided not to continue here and I went to another provider.
